About The Library

The Central Library of Panskura Banamali College (Autonomous) serves as a cornerstone of academic excellence and intellectual growth within the institution and stands as one of the largest and richest college libraries in West Bengal.. Established over 60+ years ago, the library has grown into a comprehensive resource center, housing an extensive collection of over 60,882+ books, 15+ journals and magazines, 123+ CDs/DVDs, 6+ newspapers, 14,022+ e-journals, and 432,881+ e-books across diverse disciplines. It holds numerous rare and invaluable books, including those generously donated by alumni and publishers, whose valuation is beyond measure. In addition to the central collection, several academic departments maintain their own seminar libraries with reference and textbooks, some purchased through departmental grants and others donated, further enriching the learning environment. Certain rare and old books are not included in the official count due to their historical significance. Furthermore, the library has subscribed to ProQuest for access to a wide range of e-resources. ProQuest provides an extensive collection of scholarly content, including academic journals, dissertations, theses, newspapers, and reports, covering various fields of study. This subscription enhances the research capabilities of students and faculty, enabling them to access high-quality information and stay updated with the latest developments in their respective fields. The library caters to the needs of approximately 7,500 undergraduate, postgraduate, and Research Scholar, along with over 150 faculty members and 100 staff members across 25 undergraduate, 7 postgraduate, and 2 training departments (B.Ed. and B.P.Ed.). Its services have been fully automated using the 'Koha' library database management software, allowing for seamless cataloging, searching, and access to resources. To enhance its digital capabilities, the library has implemented DSPACE for maintaining a digital repository. The library's digital infrastructure is supported by a high-power online UPS for uninterrupted service. Efforts are also underway to enable web-based searching of the library’s materials through the integrated library management system. As a core member of INFLIBNET-NLIST and NDL of IIT Kharagpur, the library provides online access to numerous essential full-text databases in science and arts, expanding the scope of research and learning opportunities for students and faculty alike. The library operates from Monday to Saturday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, ensuring convenient access to resources for the college community. With a modern, student-friendly environment, digital archives, reading rooms, and a dedicated staff, the Central Library stands as a driving force behind the academic and research achievements of Panskura Banamali College (Autonomous).
